Well, we were outside in the beer garden, and my partner, his friend and the little one, went inside because they wanted to get another pint. I saw Yuri, my son, returning with his hands out to me, he had gotten "Halloween Money" from other customers inside and wanted me to see it.
He was very proud of this and he made me laugh as usual with his innocence and amazement at the smallest details.
After a while, the gentleman who gave him part of that money came out and started talking to us, sat with us, a very Irish thing to do. And one of the very Irish things I do love indeed.
He was a lovely man and was in the pub with another girl about my age, which told us about her being in the Irish Army for the last 9 years.
Caitriona, that's her name, told us how she participated in Peace Missions in Liberia, Chad, Kosovo, and other places where a war had been. The Irish Army went there to rebuild the cities destroyed. They build orphanages, wells for water, schools for the children.
And I thought to myself, looking at my partner in the eyes, knowing he was thinking exactly the same as me: that's a Peace Mission!
The Italian Army, on the other hand, went in a Peace Mission with pacifist Bush and pacifist Blair. They are defending the US interests in the war, they are contributing to the massacre of children and defenseless women in Afghanistan. The Italian Army has helped destroy a whole Country. The people who allowed this should be in trial for mass murder and genocide.
Once the Talibans were convenient so they could keep the Soviet Union away from Afghanistan enormous resources. 9 years ago they became the number one menace for our Western World.
People in Italy still believe their Army is in a Peace Mission. People in Italy have no idea what their Army is doing there. People in Italy are unable to form a critic thought because all the medias are in the hand of the Prime Minister. They are led to believe what their Army is doing in Afghanistan is noble. Well, it isn't. And Italians are paying for this with their own tax money.
I would not want Moroccans, Aurstralians and French patrolling my streets in tanks. I would not want to be forced to leave my house in the middle of the night because some Prime Minister decided he wants gas and opium for his Country on the other side of the world. I would not want to see my child mutilated by a mine, my husband killed while he's queueing for bread.
Let's all look at this Peace Mission with the eyes of the victims, the REAL victims, the ones whose lives were destroyed by a Peace Mission. And it is clear I am not defending the talibans. They were armed and paid by the US until 9 years ago. So not good guys at all.
Please let's look at tragedies such as this with the eyes of the orphans, the homeless, the refugees this Peace Mission has caused so far. Maybe we will be able to see a different side, the side of the weakest.
